Eyjólfur Þorsteinsson stóð í miðri fylkingu þeirra Hrafns öndverðan bardagann og barðist vel og drengilega og gekk þar eigi lengi á er hann var fyrir. Stóð hann fast og þeir sem honum fylgdu. Eyjólfur hafði fengið steinshögg framan á brjóstið í bardaganum og varð honum við það heldur erfitt. Voru hans aðgerðir þaðan af minni en ellegar mundi. Gekk þá bardaginn sem snarpast um hríð. Sóttu menn þá fast að Eyjólfi. Angraði hann þá mæði. Var það mjög jafnsnemma að þá brast flóttinn í liði þeirra Hrafns og Eyjólfs. Vildi hann þá leita til hests síns. En er hann tók stigreipið og ætlaði á bak hljóp í því að honum Jörundur gestur og þreif um hálsinn og hnekkti á bak aftur og felldi hann og fór á hann ofan og rak af honum stálhúfuna. Kom þá að Þorvarður og menn hans og spurði hvern hann hefði þar undir. Jörundur svarar: Eg kenni hann fullgjörla að hér er Eyjólfur Þorsteinsson. Gekk Þorvarður þá að og tók spjótið tveim höndum og lagði til Eyjólfs. Kom það lag í munninn og niður gegnum hnakkann við vellinum. Sá maður hjó í höfuð Eyjólfi er Kimbi hét, með breiðöxi, og greinast menn að hvor fyrri áverki varð. Kimbi var síðan drepinn og segja menn að það væri af ráðum Hrafns fullkomlega.
