Sturla sendi um vorið um föstu Ketil Þorláksson og Svarthöfða Dufgusson suður í Ölfus til Gissurar Þorvaldssonar og lét segja honum að hann ætlaði um vorið suður um land að heimta fé Kols með Ormi. Tók Gissur vel á því. Var það þá ráðið að Gissur skyldi fara með honum ef hann vildi austur um ár og skyldu þeir finnast þá er Sturla kæmi suður um heiðar. Skyldi Gissur halda njósnum austur yfir ár og vita hvað ráðagerðum þeir hefðu um mál þessi. Margar orðsendingar fóru á millum þeirra Sighvats og Sturlu er á leið. Um vorið eftir páska fór Sturla vestur í fjörðu og kvaddi upp menn þá er hann vildi að færu með honum, fyrst Hrafnssonu og marga aðra röskva menn er þá voru um alla fjörðu. Sighvatur kom norðan í Dali meðan Sturla var vestur og gisti á Jörfa og lét sér margt finnast um vesturför Sturlu og spyr að hví hann hefði farið en það kunni engi að segja. Þótti flestum sem hann mundi gerr vita en þeir er hann spurði að. Þá er Sighvatur reið ofan eftir Haukadal reið þá Már kumbaldi til móts við hann fornvin Sturlunga og töluðu þeir margt.
