Þessi vetur var harður og illur og héldu menn illa víða um héruð. Þórdís bjó þá í Vatnsfirði sem fyrr var ritað. Um vorið eftir páska kom þar Oddur Álason og með honum Högni Halldórsson frændi hans og sveit manna með þeim. Þeir dvöldust þar um hríð. Voru þá kærleikar miklir með þeim Oddi og Þórdísi. Og einn morgun snemma urðu menn varir við að bærinn var horfinn mönnum og heyrðu þeir vopnabrak. Högni gekk til dura og spurði hverjir komnir væru. Honum var sagt að þar væru þeir mágar Ólafur Æðeyingur og Snorri Magnússon úr Grunnavík og báðu þá út ganga. Högni spurði hvort þeim skyldi fritt vera. Þeir létust eigi mundu því heita. En er Oddur hafði fengið vopn sín og þeir skynjuðu að ekki var mannmargt úti réðu þeir til útgöngu og var lítill liðsmunur og réðu hvorigir á aðra. Skildust þeir að því að Oddur lýsti fjörráðum á hendur þeim við sig. En þar urðu engi hlaupaför né á unnin verk að því sinni með þeim. Fóru þeir heim en Oddur út í fjörðu með sveit sína.
