Íslsag Þetta haust komu út bréf Sigurðar erkibiskups er þá var nýkominn í land. Voru þau mælt harðlega til þeirra Sturlu og Sighvats um Grímseyjarför og annan mótgang við Guðmund biskup. Var þeim utan stefnt báðum feðgum en það réðst af að Sturla skyldi fara fyrir þá báða og leysa mál þeirra beggja. Sturla lýsti utanferð sinni um veturinn en Solveig og börn þeirra skulu vera meðan á Grund með Sighvati. Skyldi Sighvatur hafa umsjá um ríki Sturlu meðan hann væri utan. Þá var engi höfðingi í Vestfjörðum en þeir voru þá mestir af bóndum Oddur Álason og Gísli á Sandi og voru þeir hinir mestu vinir Sturlu. En Oddi bauð Sturla um að geyma vina sinna og réðst hann þá um vorið á Eyri í Arnarfjörð. Hann hafði margt röskra manna með sér. Gekk þá skjótt við ráð hans. Skorti hann og eigi fé. Gerðist hann ofsamaður mikill og engi jafnaðarmaður.
