Þessi vetur var kallaður sandvetur og var fellivetur mikill og dó hundrað nauta fyrir Snorra Sturlusyni út í Svignaskarði. Snorri hafði um veturinn jóladrykki eftir norrænum sið. Þar var mannmargt. Þar var Jón og Órækja og synir Hallveigar, Klængur og Ormur, Þórðarsynir Ólafur og Sturla, Þórður son Þorvalds Vatnsfirðings, Sigurður Ormsson bróðir Hallveigar, Sturla Bárðarson, Styrmir Þórisson úr Goðdölum, Bárður ungi hirðmaður bróðir Dags er átti dóttur Dagfinns lögmanns og margir aðrir góðir menn. Þá var fæð mikil með þeim Sturlu frændunum. Hafði hann og mannmargt.
