Í þenna tíma bjó Kálfur Guttormsson á Grund í Eyjafirði. Hann átti Ósk Þorvarðsdóttur hins auðga. Guttormur hét son hans en Jórunn dóttir. Kálfur þótti þá mestur bóndi í Eyjafirði. Þá bjó að Hrafnagili Hallur Kleppjárnsson. Hann átti Ingibjörgu dóttur Guðmundar hins dýra. Einar og Kleppjárn voru synir þeirra. Með þeim Halli og Kálfi var óþokki mikill. Varð þeim mart til. Hafði Hallur þá mannaforráð í Eyjafirði. Þótti honum Kálfur ekki trúr að leita á þingmenn sína. Þeir deildu og um hvalmál nokkur og færðu það til alþingis og var hvortveggi hinn mesti fulltingsmaður síns máls. Þótti það æ sannara er sá talaði er þá flutti sitt erindi en þó fengu þeir ekki samið því að þeim varð mart til. Hrafngilingar ortu mart um Kálf og gerðu að honum spott mikið. Þetta var kveðið: Og enn:
