Þann vetur er Guðmundur var fyrir kennimönnum að Hólum sendi Kolbeinn orð Sigurði mági sínum og Þuríði móður sinni jafnfram sem biskupsefni sendi sína menn austur til Svínafells. Bað hann þau og til ráðast með biskupsefni til fjárforráða og staðar. Hann segir þeirra sæmd mundu vera miklu meiri fyrir norðan en austur þar. Seldu þau þá Svínafellsland og mannaforráð Jóni Sigmundarsyni bróðursyni Sigurðar. Hann átti Þóru hina eldri dóttur Guðmundar gríss og Solveigar Jónsdóttur og voru þeirra börn Ormur og Solveig er átti Skeggi í Skógum og Steinunn er átti Ögmundur Helgason. Þau Jón bjuggu á Valþjófsstöðum og seldu það land Teiti syni Odds Gissurarsonar. Hann átti Helgu Þorvarðsdóttur bræðrungu Guðmundar biskups. Og þá er Jón reið brott af Valþjófsstöðum og suður á Öxarheiði snýr hann aftur hestinum og mælti: Hér skilst eg við Fljótsdalshérað og á eg nú hér ekki eftir. Þá svarar Þóra kona hans: Þú átt eftir en eg á ekki eftir. Þetta spámæli birtist á þann hátt að nokkurum vetrum síðar var sveinn sá kenndur Jóni í Fljótsdalshéraði er Þórarinn hét. Hann varð síðan mikill maður fyrir sér sem enn mun sagt verða. Þetta sumar er kaup þessi voru réðust þau Sigurður og Þuríður til Hóla og voru þar tvo vetur. Þá buðu þau til fósturs Tuma syni Sighvats.
