Páll prestur bauð heim Jóni Loftssyni í Reykjaholt og var þar góður drykkur. Þar voru leiddir fram öxn þrír og var einn sex vetra en annar níu vetra. Þá mælti Páll: Minni munu laun fram koma en þú værir verður fyrir liðveisluna en hér skaltu kjósa hvort þú vilt hafa þenna uxa, hinn sex vetra, eða hina báða. Jón mælti: Svo líst mér á hinn sex vetra öxa að eigi megi betri öxn verða en þessi og kýs eg hann. Páll mælti: Það er vel fyrir því að jafnmikið hefir mig kostað þessi einn sem hinir tveir. Síðan dró hann gullhring á horn uxanum og kvað því fylgja skyldu tíu hundraða vaðmála. Jón þakkaði honum vel slíkar vingjafar og skildust með hinni mestu vináttu.
