Ísleifr var vígðr til byskups á dögum Haralds Sigurðarsonar. En þat sáu höfðingjar, at Ísleifr byskup var miklu meiri nytjamaðr en aðrir kennimenn hér á landi, þá seldu margir honum sonu sína til læringar ok létu vígja til presta. Þeir váru síðan vígðir til byskupa, Kolr, er var í Vík austr, ok Jón, er síðan var at Hólum. Ísleifr var vígðr til byskups, þá er hann var fimmtugr. Þá var Leó páfi, sá er inn níundi hefir verit með því nafni. En hann var inn næsta vetr í Nóregi ok fór síðan til Íslands. En hann andaðist í Skálaholti, þá er hann hafði alls verit byskup fjóra vetr ok tuttugu. Þat var á dróttinsdegi sex nóttum eftir Pétrs messu ok Páls, átta tigum vetra eftir fall Óláfs konungs Tryggvasonar.
