Ok um várit eftir fór Hafliði Másson suðr yfir heiði í Haukadal til kirkjudags tveggja postula messu, Filippi ok Jakobi, til Halls, mágs síns ok dvaldist þar í góðu yfirlæti ok talaði þar langt erendi um mál þeira Þorgils Oddasonar eftir allar tíðir um daginn ok sagði, at honum þótti sér erfitt veita at skipta málum við hann fyrir ofrkappi ok fjölmenni, ok talaði þar um langt erendi ok snjallt ok bað liðsinnis ok þingreiðar ok fjölmennis ór heraðinu ok bað Hall, mág sinn, liðs ok styrktar. Ok hann bað liðs lærða menn, at biðja skyldi fyrir þeim til guðs ok þess, at mál þessi lykist með góðu ok svá yrði nökkurs háttar sem bezt gegndi öllum landsbúendum, en hann heldi þó sæmd sinni.

Þá svarar sá maðr, er Þorsteinn hét, af Drumb-Oddssröðum: "Nauðsyn sýnist mér mikil at styðja orð þín, því at þú hefir lengi borit skarðan hlut fyrir Þorgilsi, setit honum mikinn vansa."

Þá svarar Hallr Teitsson: "Þorsteinn félagi, verum vit hljóðir, ok ertu vesall máls, ‑ ekki kunnum vit betr en hlýða til. Þú vill vel, en mátt illa. Hafliði hefir honum aldri vansa setit, en þó er honum þetta nauðsynjamál. Ok sá einn er minn vinr, er þessum málum fylgir síðr."
