Nú er þat sagt, at lík Óláfs var heim flutt ok tjaldat yfir í kirkjugarði.
Ok um daginn ríðr Þorgils sunnan um heiði ok tekr áfanga at Þórðar Rúfeyjaskálds í Hvammsdal. Þórðr hafði ort kvæði um Þorgils ok var eigi launat. Þorgilsi hafði gefin verit öx góð, ok tekr Þórðr til öxarinnar ok lítr á ok spyrr, hvers þeim þætti verð öxin, en þeir urpu á tvær merkr. Þórðr kvað vísu þessa:
Metin es marka tveggja.
Mér þætti Svartleggja
góð, ef grunlaus væri.
Getr vildri mér færi.
Ok fagrslegin fála
fastleggs virði hála
semði sjá fyr kvæði.
Sleppr mörgum fullræði.
Þorgils mælti, at Þórðr skyldi taka landsleigu undir sjálfum sér, en hann sagðist [eigi] eiga lóg til öxarinnar.
Ok um daginn kemr Þorgils heim, ok eru honum sögð þessi tíðendi, ok lætr hann grafa lík Óláfs at kirkju.
