HAFLIÐI hét maðr. Hann var Másson, Húnröðarsonar, [Véfróðarsonar], Ævarssonar. Þuríðr hét kona hans, dóttir Þórðar, sonar Sturlu Þjóðrekssonar, ok áttu þau margt barna. Síðan átti hann Rannveigu, systur Halls Teitssonar. Þeira dóttir var Sigríðr, er átti Þórðr í Vatnsfirði. Snorri hét sonr þeira. Hafliði bjó at Breiðabólstað í Vestrhópi ok var bæði forvitri ok góðgjarn ok inn mesti höfðingi. Bergþórr hét bróðir Hafliða Mássonar. Hann átti Kolþernu, dóttur Eyjólfs halta. Þeira sonr var Guðmundr, faðir Más prests.
Sonr Bergþórs var Már. Hann var óvinsæll ok illa skapi farinn ok ólíkr góðum frændum sínum, hafði nökkurt fé ok helzt illa á. Hann var oft með Hafliða, frænda sínum, á vetrum ok var honum óskaptíðr.
Þat var sagt eitt vár, at hann keypti sér skip ok færi á Strandir norðr. Hann var maðr mikill ok beinstórr, skarpvaxinn, svartr ok óséligr. Hann kemr niðr á Ströndum norðr, þar sem heitir í Ávík, til þess bónda, er Hneitir hét.
Hann var skilgóðr bóndi ok vinsæll. Kona hans hét Björg. Þau áttu tvá sonu, Steinþór ok Finnboga. Rannveig ok Hergerðr váru dætr þeira. Hneitir var þingmaðr Hafliða ok annaðist reka hans.
Þorsteinn hét maðr, vinsæll ok rólyndr. Hann var kallaðr allra manna veiðnastr. Hann annaðist móður sína ok börn sín, fór jafnan með skipi Hneitis, ok skapaði hann honum góðan hlut fyrir starf sitt.
