Þessu í gegn munu finna fögnuð;
fyrðum heim til sinnar dýrðar
herrann bauð með hæstri prýði,
heimleiddir því að verða beimar
ungir, glaðir, frjálsir, fríðir,
færir, máttkir, vitrir, skærir;
hátíð gild um allar aldir
alda þeim er virðing haldin.

Í gegn þessu munu finna fögnuð; herrann bauð fyrðum heim til dýrðar sinnar með hæstri prýði, því að heimleiddir beimar verða ungir, glaðir, frjálsir, fríðir, færir, máttkir, vitrir, skærir; hátíð gild haldin um allar aldir alda er virðing þeim.

‘On the other hand, they will find joy; the Lord invited men home to his glory with the highest splendour, because the people, having been led home, become young, happy, free, beautiful, healthy, mighty, wise, radiant; a magnificent feast held through all ages to come is an honour to them.’

This st. concludes the epic portion of Lil. What follows is lyrical: confessions of faith, prayers, and praise of Mary (JH). — [2]: Cf. Líkn 28/1-2: Heim laðar hvern frá dómi | himins fyrða til dyrðar ‘[God] invites each of the [faithful] men home with him from the Judgement to heaven’s glory’. Cf. also Lil 68/8. — [3-4]: The idiom bjóða heim means ‘to drive livestock home’ (ONP: bjóða 4). The use of bjóða with heimleiðar ‘homewards’ (l. 4, gen. of heimleið ‘home path’, used adverbially) again evokes the image of the two flocks. On the adverbial use of the gen., see Guðbrandur Jónsson 1951, 176, and NS §152. Skj B and Skald follow the alternative ms. reading heimleiddir, from heimleiddr, adj. ‘led home’, and construe því at heimleiddir beimar verða ungir ... ‘because, having been led home, men become young ...’. Bauð (l. 3) is then given its normal sense of ‘invited’.
