En eigi langan tíma upp frá þessu tók Þorsteinn sótt og
andaðist og þó að fyrr segi líflát Þorsteins þá lést Jökull
fyrstur þeirra bræðra en Þórir lifði lengst. Þorkell krafla
var þá þrevetur er Þórir andaðist fóstri hans. Þá fór Þorkell
til Þórorms og var þar upp fóstraður. Eigi ætluðu menn að fá
mundi iðgjöld Þorsteins og bræðra hans en þó þótti mönnum
synir hans vel stíga í spor honum. Ingólfur þótti konunum
vænstur svo sem kveðið var:

Allar vildu meyjar

með Ingólfi ganga

þær er vaxnar voru.

Vesöl kvaðst hún æ til lítil.

Þeir bræður skiptu arfi með sér. Ingólfur bjó að Hofi en
Guðbrandur að Guðbrandsstöðum. Ingólfur átti Halldísi dóttur
Ólafs frá Haukagili. Hún var yngri en Ásdís, er Óttar átti,
er móðir var Valgerðar og Hallfreðar vandræðaskálds. Ingólfur
kom að finna Valgerði jafnan er hann fór til þings eða frá.
Það líkaði Óttari illa. Hún gerði honum og klæði öll þau er
mest skyldi vanda.
