Nú skal segja þann ævintýr er gerðist á ofanverðum dögum
Hákonar Hlaðajarls, í hverjum kynstrum, göldrum og gerningum
hann varð forsmáður og mjög að verðugu, því að hans
mannillska og guðníðingskapur varð mörgum manni til mikils
þunga og óbætilegs skaða andar og líkama. Varð honum það sem
margan tímir að þá er hegningartíminn er kominn er eigi hægt
undan að komast því að það er óvinarins náttúra að þann
manninn sem hann þykist fullkomið vald á eiga og önga von á
til guðs blekkir hann fyrst og blygðar með krókóttum
kyndugskap sinna bölvaðra slægða í framleiðslu hans ljótu
lífsdaga en að þrotnum hans stundlegum lífstíma verður hann
drekktur í dökkri dýflissu dálegra kvala með eymd og ánauð
utan enda.
