Engi varð á jǫrðu
ættum góðr nema Fróði
gæti-Njǫrðr, sás gerði,
geirbríkar, frið slíkan.

{Engi ættum góðr gæti-Njǫrðr {geirbríkar}} varð á jǫrðu, sás gerði slíkan frið, nema Fróði.

{No well-descended guarding-Njǫrðr <god> {of the spear-board}} [SHIELD > WARRIOR] lived on earth who made such peace, except Fróði.

Mss: FskBˣ(19v), 51ˣ(17v), 302ˣ(27v), FskAˣ(79), 52ˣ(30v), 301ˣ(28r-v) (Fsk)

Editions: Skj AI, 126, Skj BI, 120, Skald I, 67, NN §408; Fsk 1902-3, 70 (ch. 14), ÍF 29, 112 (ch. 16).

Context: Fsk cites this stanza following st. 15 and introduces it by remarking that peace and fertility prevailed.

Notes: [2] Fróði: The name Fróði is given to five different early Danish legendary kings, two of whom are associated with peaceful rule, and the name evokes a golden age of peace (see Note to Þjóð Yt 1/2).
