Á þá leið segir hann að "vera má svo að menn virði þann veg
að mér leiðist í seinna lagi að mæla hér að Lögbergi. Eigi er
það fyrir þá sök að eg sé málsnjallur maður heldur ber mér
til handa mikinn vanda oft af málum. Nú vættir mig að flestum
mönnum sé kunnigt hversu vor viðskipti hafa farið og þeirra
manna er oss hafa í mót staðið. Þykjumst vér hafa haft við
langa þolinmæði, þá harma er oss voru gervir, og fengum þar í
mót spott og háð þá er oss var andstefnt þá er vér beiddum
bóta fyrir frændur vora og þar með óþokka af frændum og
tengdamönnum og þar í frá út öllum jafnsaman er vér vorum
eigi svo bráðir í hefndum. Og er vér áttum öngra yfirbóta að
vænta þá réðum vér til hefnda nokkuru meir með kappi en
forsjá að ráðast með ófriði í önnur héruð með fá menn. Og nú
kom svo að vér fengum þar meira hlut og fór eftir málefnum.
Nú má vera að þeir þykist nokkuð við oss eiga að ræða er fyrr
tóku leið af voru máli. Nú viljum vér annars háttar svör
veita en þeir gerðu við oss, bjóðum á vitra manna dóm og
góðgjarnra. Viljum vér svo til lykta færa vort mál að leggja
þetta fyrir vora hönd í þann dóm er vænst er að best megi
haldast og sjatna mætti ófriðurinn."
