Geir fýstist nú til Íslands og bað Hörð gefa sér fararleyfi.
Hörður bað hann fara sem hann vildi en halda þó vináttu við
sig. Helgi var eftir með Herði og Sigurður. Geir fór í burt.
Þeim gaf seint byri og komu í Víkina austur og höfðu tjöld á
landi.

Það fréttir Gunnhildur konungamóðir og sendir menn sína til
að drepa Geir. Þeir koma um nótt og berja þeim tjaldkúlur og
fella á þá tjöldin. Geir komst einn á brott með vopnum sínum
og varð áður níu manna bani. Hann fór þar til er hann kom til
Brynjólfs Þorbjarnarsonar en þeir feðgar komu honum í skip og
fengu honum fé nokkuð. Það þykir mönnum sem Gunnhildur hafi
bannað Geir með fjölkynngi sinni til Noregs. Líkaði henni nú
hið versta er Geir komst undan. Létu þeir nú í haf.

Geir kom út á Eyrum um sumarið. Þá var andaður Grímur faðir
Geirs og svo Högni móðurfaðir hans í Hagavík en þær Guðríður
og Þorbjörg varðveittu bú á Grímsstöðum. Geir fór þangað og
var þar um veturinn. En um vorið keypti hann land í
Neðra-Botni og færði þangað bú sitt og var allgagnsamt.
Þangað fór Guðríður og Þorbjörg.
