The new edition is either unpublished or unavailable. The following is taken from an old edition (Skj where relevant):

Ólafur konungur gekk einn dag um stræti en nokkurir menn
gengu í móti honum. Sá fagnaði konungi er fyrstur gekk.
Konungur spurði þann mann að nafni. Hann nefndist Hallfreður.

Konungur mælti: "Ert þú skáldið?"

Hann svarar: "Kann eg að yrkja."

Konungur mælti: "Þú munt vilja trúa á sannan guð en kasta
forneskju og illum átrúnaði. Þú ert maður skörulegur og
einarðlegur og er þér einsætt að þjóna eigi lengur fjanda."

Hallfreður svarar: "Vel getur þú um talað konungur en eigi
mun eg láta kauplaust skírast."

Konungur mælti: "Hvað er til mælt?"

"Það," sagði Hallfreður, "að þú konungur sjálfur veitir mér
guðsifjar. Af engum manni öðrum vil eg það embætti þiggja."

Konungur sagði að hann vill það til vinna. Var þá Hallfreður
skírður og allir hans skipverjar. Hélt Ólafur konungur
Hallfreði undir skírn. Þess getur Hallfreður í einni drápu er
hann orti um Ólaf konung:

Hlaut eg þann er æðstr var einna,

eg sanna það, manna

undir niðbyrði Norðra

norðr guðföður orðinn.

Síðan er Hallfreður var skírður fékk konungur hann í hendur
móðurbræðrum sínum, Karlshöfði og Jósteini, að þeir skyldu
kenna honum credo og pater noster. Tóku þá og trú Brandur
hinn örvi og þeir bræður, synir Breiðár-Skeggja og allir
aðrir Íslendingar þeir sem þar voru í bænum.
