Nú fer Eyjólfur heiman við hinn tólfta mann suður til fundar
við Börk hinn digra og sagði honum þessi tíðindi og allan
atburð.



Og varð Börkur kátur við þetta og biður Þórdísi taka vel
honum Eyjólfi, "og mun þú ást þá hina miklu er þú unnir
Þorgrími, bróður mínum og ger vel við Eyjólf."



"Gráta mun eg Gísla, bróður minn," segir Þórdís; "en mun eigi
vel fagnað Gísla bana ef grautur er ger og gefinn?"



Og um kveldið er hún bar mat fram fellir hún niður
spónatrogið. Eyjólfur hafði lagt sverð það í milli stokks og
fóta sér er Gísli hafði átt. Þórdís kennir sverðið og er hún
lýtur niður eftir spónunum þreif hún meðalkaflann á sverðinu
og leggur til Eyjólfs og vildi leggja á honum miðjum. Gáði
hún eigi að hjalti horfði upp og nam við borðinu; hún lagði
neðar en hún hafði ætlað og kom í lærið og var það mikið sár.
Börkur tekur Þórdísi og snarar af henni sverðið. Þeir hlaupa
upp allir og hrinda fram borðunum og matnum. Börkur bauð
Eyjólfi sjálfdæmi fyrir þetta og gerði hann full manngjöld og
kveðst gert mundu meira ef Berki hefði verr í farið.



Þórdís nefnir sér þá votta og segir skilið við Börk og kveðst
eigi skyldu koma síðan í sömu sæng hjá honum og það endi hún.
Fór hún þá að búa á Þórdísarstöðum út á Eyri. En Börkur er
eftir að Helgafelli, til þess er Snorri goði kom honum á
brott og fór Börkur þá að búa í Glerárskógum. En Eyjólfur fer
heim og unir illa við sína ferð.
