Hildiríðarsynir höfðu verið þann vetur með Haraldi konungi og
höfðu með sér heimamenn sína og nábúa. Þeir bræður voru
oftlega á tali við konung og fluttu enn á sömu leið mál
Þórólfs.

Hárekur spurði: "Líkaði yður vel finnskatturinn, konungur, er
Þórólfur sendi yður?"

"Vel," sagði konungur.

"Þá myndi yður margt um finnast," segir Hárekur, "ef þér
hefðuð allan þann, sem þér áttuð, en nú fór það fjarri. Var
hitt miklu meiri hlutur, er Þórólfur dró undir sig. Hann
sendi yður að gjöf bjórskinn þrjú, en eg veit víst, að hann
hafði eftir þrjá tigu þeirra, er þér áttuð, og hygg eg, að
slíkan mun hafi farið um annað. Satt mun það, konungur, ef þú
færð sýsluna í hönd okkur bræðrum, að meira fé skulum við
færa þér."

En allt það, er þeir sögðu á hendur Þórólfi, þá báru
förunautar þeirra vitni með þeim. Kom þá svo, að konungur var
hinn reiðasti.
