Maður hét Yngvar, ríkur og auðugur; hann hafði verið lendur
maður hinna fyrri konunga, en síðan er Haraldur kom til
ríkis, settist Yngvar heima og þjónaði ekki konungi. Yngvar
var maður kvongaður og átti dóttur, er hét Bera; Yngvar bjó í
Fjörðum; Bera var einbirni hans og stóð til arfs eftir hann.

Grímur Kveld-Úlfsson bað Beru til handa sér, og var það að
ráði gert. Fékk Grímur Beru þann vetur, er þeir Þórólfur
höfðu skilist áður um sumarið; var Grímur þá hálfþrítugur að
aldri og var þá sköllóttur; síðan var hann kallaður Skalla-Grímur.
Hann hafði þá forráð öll fyrir búi þeirra feðga og
tilöflun alla, en þó var Kveld-Úlfur hress maður og vel fær.
Margt höfðu þeir frelsingja með sér og marga þá menn, er
heima þar höfðu upp vaxið og voru nær jafnaldrar Skalla-Gríms;
voru þeir margir afreksmenn miklir að afli, því að
Kveld-Úlfur og þeir feðgar völdu menn mjög að afli til
fylgdar við sig og tömdu við skaplyndi sitt.

Skalla-Grímur var líkur föður sínum á vöxt og að afli, svo og
að yfirlitum og skaplyndi.
