En er Ólafur konungur hafði mjög búið lið sitt úr Niðarósi þá
skipaði hann mönnum um öll Þrændalög í sýslur og ármenningar.
Þá sendi hann til Íslands Gissur hvíta og Hjalta Skeggjason
að boða kristni á Íslandi og fékk með þeim prest þann er
Þormóður er nefndur og fleiri vígða menn en hafði eftir með
sér í gísling fjóra íslenska menn, þá er honum þóttu
ágætastir: Kjartan Ólafsson, Halldór Guðmundarson, Kolbein
Þórðarson, Sverting Runólfsson.



Og er það sagt af ferð þeirra Gissurar og Hjalta að þeir komu
til Íslands fyrir alþingi og fóru til þings og á því þingi
var kristni í lög tekin á Íslandi og það sumar var skírt allt
mannfólk.
