Eiríkur jarl sigldi um haustið aftur til Svíþjóðar og var þar
vetur annan. En að vori bjó jarl her sinn og sigldi síðan í
Austurveg. En þá er hann kom í ríki Valdimars konungs tók
hann að herja og drepa mannfólkið og brenna allt þar sem hann
fór og eyddi landið. Hann kom til Aldeigjuborgar og settist
þar um þar til er hann vann staðinn, drap þar mart fólk en
braut og brenndi borgina alla og síðan fór hann víða
herskildi um Garðaríki.

Svo segir í Bandadrápu:

Oddhríðar fór eyða,

óx hríð að það síðan,

logfágandi lægis

land Valdimars brandi.

Aldeigju braust, ægir,

oss numnast skil, gumna.

Sú varð hildr með höldum

hörð. Komst austr í Garða.

Eiríkur jarl var í þessum hernaði öllum samt fimm sumur. En
er hann kom úr Garðaríki fór hann herskildi um alla Aðalsýslu
og Eysýslu og þar tók hann fjórar víkingaskeiður af Dönum og
drap allt af.

Svo segir í Bandadrápu:

Frá eg, hvar fleina sævar

fúrherðir styr gerði

endr í eyja sundi.

Eiríkr und sig geira.

Hrauð fúrgjafall fjórar

fólkmeiðr Dana skeiðar,

vér frágum það, vága,

veðrmildr og semr hildi.

Áttuð hjaldr, þar er höldar,

hlunnviggs, í bý runnu,

gæti-Njörðr, við Gauta,

gunnblíðr og ræðr síðan.

Herskildi fór hildar,

hann þverrði frið mönnum,

ás um allar Sýslur,

jarl goðvörðu hjarli.

Eiríkur jarl fór til Danmarkar þá er hann hafði einn vetur
verið í Svíaveldi. Hann fór á fund Sveins tjúguskeggs
Danakonungs og bað til handa sér Gyðu dóttur hans og var það
að ráði gert. Fékk þá Eiríkur jarl Gyðu. Vetri síðar áttu þau
son er Hákon hét. Eiríkur jarl var á vetrum í Danmörk en
stundum í Svíaveldi en í hernaði á sumrum.
