Þetta sama haust kom Þangbrandur prestur af Íslandi til Ólafs
konungs og segir sínar farar eigi sléttar, segir að
Íslendingar höfðu gert níð um hann en sumir vildu drepa hann
og lét enga von að það land mundi kristið verða. Ólafur
konungur varð svo óður og reiður að hann lét blása öllum
íslenskum mönnum saman, þeim er þar voru í bænum, og mælti
síðan að alla skyldi drepa.

En Kjartan og Gissur og Hjalti og aðrir þeir er þá höfðu við
kristni tekið gengu til konungs og mæltu: "Eigi muntu
konungur vilja ganga á bak orðum þínum því að þú mælir svo að
engi maður skal svo mikið hafa gert til reiði þinnar að eigi
viltu það upp gefa þeim er skírast vilja og láta af heiðni.
Nú vilja þessir allir íslenskir menn er hér eru nú skírast
láta en vér munum finna bragð það til er kristni mun
viðgangast á Íslandi. Eru hér margir ríkra manna synir af
Íslandi og munu feður þeirra mikið liðsinni veita að þessu
máli. En Þangbrandur fór þar sem hér með yður við ofstopa og
manndráp og þoldu menn honum þar ekki slíkt."

Tók þá konungur að hlýða á slíkar ræður. Voru þá skírðir
allir íslenskir menn þeir sem þar voru.
