Þá er Ólafur konungur Tryggvason hafði verið tvo vetur
konungur að Noregi var með honum saxneskur prestur, sá er
nefndur er Þangbrandur. Hann var ofstopamaður mikill og
vígamaður en klerkur góður og maður vaskur. En fyrir sakir
óspektar hans þá vildi konungur eigi hann með sér hafa og
fékk honum sendiferð þá að hann skyldi fara til Íslands og
kristna landið.

Var honum kaupskip fengið og er frá hans ferð það að segja að
hann kom til Íslands í Austfjörðu í Álftafjörð hinn syðra og
var eftir um veturinn með Halli á Síðu. Þangbrandur boðaði
kristni á Íslandi og af hans orðum lét Hallur skírast og hjón
hans öll og margir aðrir höfðingjar en miklu fleiri voru
hinir er í móti mæltu. Þorvaldur veili og Veturliði skáld
ortu níð um Þangbrand en hann drap þá báða. Þangbrandur
dvaldist tvo vetur á Íslandi og varð þriggja manna bani áður
hann fór í brott.
