Ólafur konungur fór með öllu liði sínu inn í Þrándheim. En er
hann kom inn á Mærini þá voru þar komnir allir höfðingjar
Þrænda, þeir er þá stóðu mest í móti kristninni, og höfðu þar
með sér alla stórbændur þá er fyrr höfðu haldið upp blótum í
þeim stað. Var þar þá fjölmennt og eftir því sem fyrr hafði
verið á Frostuþingi. Lét þá konungur krefja þings og gengu
hvorirtveggju með alvæpni til þings. En er þing var sett þá
talaði konungur og bauð mönnum kristni.

Járn-Skeggi svaraði máli konungs af hendi bónda. Segir hann
að bændur vildu enn sem fyrr að konungur bryti ekki lög á
þeim. "Viljum vér konungur," segir hann, "að þú blótir sem
hér hafa gert aðrir konungar fyrir þér."

Að hans ræðu gerðu bændur mikinn róm og segja að þeir vildu
allt vera láta sem Skeggi mælti. Þá segir konungur að hann
vill fara í hofið og sjá siðu þeirra er þeir blóta. Búendum
líkar það vel. Fara til hofsins hvorirtveggju.
