Ólafur Tryggvason var til konungs tekinn í Þrándheimi á
allsherjarþingi um land allt svo sem haft hafði Haraldur hinn
hárfagri. Hljóp þá upp múgur og margmenni og vildi eigi annað
heyra en Ólafur Tryggvason skyldi konungur vera. Fór Ólafur
þá um land allt og lagði undir sig. Snerust til hlýðni við
hann allir menn í Noregi, jafnt þeir höfðingjar á Upplöndum
eða í Víkinni er áður höfðu land haldið af Danakonungi, þá
gerðust þeir menn Ólafs konungs og héldu land af honum. Fór
hann svo yfir land hinn fyrsta vetur og eftir um sumarið.

Eiríkur jarl Hákonarson og Sveinn bróðir hans og aðrir
frændur þeirra og vinir flýðu landið og sóttu austur í
Svíaveldi til Ólafs konungs hins sænska og fengu þar góðar
viðtökur.

Svo segir Þórður Kolbeinsson:

Meinremmir, brá, manna

margs fýsa sköp, varga,

ljóða litlu síðar

læ Hákonar ævi.

En til lands þess er lindar

láðstafr vegið hafði

hraustr, þá er her fór vestan,

hygg eg komu son Tryggva.

Hafði sér við særi,

slíks var von að honum,

auðs en upp um kvæði

Eiríkr í hug meira.

Sótti reiðr að ráðum,

rann engi því manna,

þrályndi gafst Þrændum,

þrænskr jarl konung sænskan.
