Hákon jarl og margir menn með honum sátu á tré einu. Þá brast
strengur á skipi Búa en ör sú kom á Gissur af Valdresi,
lendan mann. Hann sat næst jarli og búinn allveglega. Síðan
gengu menn á skipið út og fundu þeir Hávarð höggvanda og stóð
á knjám við borðið út því að fætur voru af honum höggnir.
Hann hafði boga í hendi.

En er þeir komu á skipið út þá spurði Hávarður: "Hver féll af
láginni?"

Þeir sögðu að sá hét Gissur.

"Þá varð minna happið en eg vildi," segir hann.

"Ærið var óhappið," segja þeir, "en eigi skaltu vinna fleiri"
og drepa hann.

Síðan var valurinn kannaður og borið fé til hlutskiptis.
Hálfur þriðji tugur skipa var hroðinn af Jómsvíkingum.

Svo segir Tindur:

Vann á Vinda sinni

verðbjóðr hugins ferðar,

beit sólgagar seilar,

sverðseggja spor, leggi,

áðr hjörmeiðir hrjóða,

hætting var það, mætti

leiðar, langra skeiða,

liðs, hálfan tug þriðja.

Síðan skilja þeir her þenna. Fer Hákon jarl til Þrándheims og
líkaði stórilla er Eiríkur hafði grið gefið Vagni Ákasyni.

Það er sögn manna að Hákon jarl hafi í þessari orustu blótið
til sigurs sér Erlingi syni sínum og síðan gerði élið og þá
sneri mannfallinu á hendur Jómsvíkingum.

Eiríkur jarl fór þá til Upplanda og svo austur í ríki sitt og
fór Vagn Ákason með honum. Þá gifti Eiríkur Vagni Ingibjörgu
dóttur Þorkels leiru og gaf honum langskip gott með öllum
reiða og fékk honum skipan til. Skildust þeir hinir kærstu
vinir. Fór þá Vagn heim suður til Danmerkur og varð síðan
ágætur maður og er mart stórmenni frá honum komið.
