Ólafur Tryggvason hafði verið um veturinn í Vindlandi sem
fyrr er ritað. Hann fór um veturinn til þeirra héraða þar á
Vindlandi er legið höfðu undir Geiru drottningu og höfðu þá
undan horfið allri hlýðni og skattgjöfum þannug. Þar herjar
Ólafur og drap marga menn, brenndi fyrir sumum, tók fé mikið
og lagði undir sig þau ríki, fór síðan aftur til borgar
sinnar.

Snemma um vorið bjó Ólafur skip sín og sigldi síðan í haf.
Hann sigldi undir Skáni, veitti þar uppgöngu en landsmenn
söfnuðust saman og héldu orustu og hafði Ólafur sigur og fékk
herfang mikið. Síðan sigldi hann austur til Gotlands. Þar tók
hann kaupskip er Jamtur áttu. Þeir veittu vörn mikla og lauk
svo að Ólafur hrauð skipið og drap mart manna en tók fé allt.
Þriðju orustu átti hann á Gotlandi. Hafði Ólafur þar sigur og
fékk mikið herfang.

Svo segir Hallfreður vandræðaskáld:

Endr lét Jamta kindir

allvaldr í styr falla,

vandist hann, og Vinda

végrimmr, á það snimma.

Hættr var hersa drottinn

hjördjarfr Gota fjörvi.

Gullskerði frá eg gerðu

geirþey á Skáneyju.
