Ótta keisari var þá í Saxlandi. Hann sendi boð Haraldi
Danakonungi að hann skyldi taka skírn og trú rétta og það
landsfólk er hann stýrði en að öðrum kosti sagði keisari að
hann mundi fara með her á hendur honum. Þá lét Danakonungur
búa landvarnir sínar, lét þá vel upp halda Danavirki og búa
herskip sín.

Þá sendi konungur boð í Noreg Hákoni jarli að hann skyldi
koma til hans snemma um vorið með allan her þann sem hann
fengi. Bauð Hákon jarl her út um vorið af öllu ríki sínu og
varð hann allfjölmennur og hélt hann liði því til Danmerkur
og fór til fundar við Danakonung. Tók konungur allsæmilega
við honum. Margir aðrir höfðingjar voru þá með Danakonungi,
þeir er honum veittu lið. Hafði hann þá allmikið lið.
