Gull-Harald

Haraldur gráfeldur fór um sumarið til Danmerkur og hafði þrjú
langskip. Þar stýrði einu Arinbjörn hersir úr Fjörðum.
Haraldur konungur sigldi út úr Víkinni og til Limafjarðar og
lagðist þar að Hálsi. Var honum sagt að Danakonungur mundi
þar koma brátt.

En er þetta frá Gull-Haraldur þá heldur hann þannug með níu
skipum. Hann hafði áður búið lið það að fara í víking. Hákon
jarl hafði þá og búið sitt lið og ætlaði og í víking. Hafði
hann tólf skip og öll stór.

En er Gull-Haraldur var brott farinn þá segir Hákon jarl
konungi: "Nú veit eg eigi nema vér róum leiðangurinn og
gjöldum leiðvítið. Nú mun Gull-Haraldur drepa Harald gráfeld.
Síðan mun hann taka konungdóm í Noregi. Ætlar þú hann þér þá
tryggvan ef þú færð honum svo mikinn styrk? En hann mælti það
í vetur fyrir mér að hann mundi drepa þig ef hann kæmist í
færi. Nú mun eg vinna Noreg undir þig og drepa Gull-Harald ef
þú vilt því heita mér að eg skuli auðveldlega sættast við
yður fyrir það. Vil eg þá gerast yðar jarl og binda það
svardögum og vinna Noreg undir yður með yðrum styrk, halda
síðan landinu undir yðar ríki og gjalda yður skatta, og ertu
þá meiri konungur en þinn faðir ef þú ræður tveim
þjóðlöndum."

Þetta semst með þeim konungi og jarli. Fer þá Hákon með liði
sínu að leita Gull-Haralds.
