Eftir um vorið sendi Gunnhildur njósnarmenn til Upplanda og
allt í Víkina að njósna um það hvað um hag Ástríðar mundi
vera. En er sendimenn koma aftur þá kunnu þeir það helst að
segja Gunnhildi að Ástríður mundi vera við föður sínum
Eiríki, segja og þess meiri von að hún muni þar upp fæða son
þeirra Tryggva konungs.

Þá gerir Gunnhildur þegar sendimenn og býr þá vel að vopnum
og hestum og hafa þeir þrjá tigu manna og var þar til forráða
ríkur maður, vinur Gunnhildar, er Hákon er nefndur. Hún bað
þá fara á Oprustaði til Eiríks og hafa þaðan son Tryggva
konungs og færa henni. Þá fara sendimenn alla leið sína.

En er þeir áttu skammt til Oprustaða þá verða varir við ferð
þeirra vinir Eiríks og báru honum njósn um ferð sendimanna að
kveldi dags.

En þegar um nóttina bjó Eiríkur brottferð Ástríðar, fékk
henni góða leiðtoga og sendi hana austur til Svíþjóðar á fund
Hákonar hins gamla, vinar síns, ríks manns. Fóru þau í brott
er mikið lifði nætur.

Þau komu að kveldi dags í hérað er Skaun heitir og sáu þar bæ
mikinn og fóru þannug til og báðu sér næturvistar. Þau
duldust og höfðu vond klæði. Sá bóndi er nefndur Björn
eiturkveisa, auðigur maður og illur þegn. Hann rak þau í
brott.

Fóru þau um kveldið í annað þorp skammt þaðan er hét í
Viskum. Þorsteinn hét þar bóndi sá er þau herbergði og veitti
þeim góðan forbeina um nóttina. Sváfu þau í góðum umbúnaði.
