Tryggvi konungur, er hann hélt vestan, kom liði sínu utan að Hörðalandi. Þá spurði hann að Sveinn konungur hafði suður siglt. Hélt þá Tryggvi konungur suður á Rogaland.

En er Sveinn konungur fékk njósn um för Tryggva þá er hann var vestan kominn þá sneri hann aftur norður með her sinn og varð fundur þeirra Tryggva fyrir innan Bókn í Sóknarsundi nær því er fallið hafði Erlingur Skjálgsson. Þar varð mikil orusta og hörð.

Svo segja menn að Tryggvi skaut báðum höndum senn gaflökum. Hann mælti: "Svo kenndi minn faðir mér að messa."

Það höfðu mælt óvinir hans að hann mundi vera sonur prests eins en hann hrósaði því að hann líktist þá meir Ólafi konungi Tryggvasyni. Var Tryggvi og hinn gervilegsti maður. Í þeirri orustu féll Tryggvi konungur og mart lið hans en sumt kom á flótta en sumt gekk til griða.

Svo segir í Tryggvaflokki:

Tíreggjaðr fór Tryggvi,
tókst morð af því, norðan,
en Sveinn konungr sinni
sunnan ferð að gunni.
Nær var eg þausnum þeira.
Það bar skjótt að móti.
Her týndi þar harða,
hjörgöll var þá, fjörvi.

Þessarar orustu getur í þeim flokki er ortur var um Svein konung:

Vara sunnudag, svanni,
seggr hné margr und eggjar
morgun þann, sem manni
mær lauk eða öl bæri,
þá er Sveinn konungr sína
saman tengja bað drengi,
hrátt gafst hold að slíta
hrafni, skeiðar stafna.

Sveinn konungur réð þá enn landi eftir orustu þessa. Var þá góður friður. Sat Sveinn konungur þann vetur eftir suður í landi.
