En er Ólafur konungur fór austan um Kjöl og sótti þá vestur af fjallinu svo að land lægði þaðan vestur að sjá og sá þá þannug landið. Mart lið fór fyrr en konungur og mart síðar. Reið hann þar er rúmt var um hann. Var hann hljóður, mælti ekki við menn. Reið hann svo langa hríð dags að hann sást lítt um.

Þá reið biskup að honum og mælti, spurði hvað hann hugsaði er hann var svo hljóður, því að konungur var jafnan glaður og margmálugur við menn sína í ferðinni og gladdi svo alla þá er nær honum voru.

Þá svarar konungur með áhyggju mikilli: "Undarlega hluti hefir borið fyrir mig um hríð. Eg sá nú yfir Noreg er eg leit vestur af fjallinu. Kom mér þá í hug að eg hafði margan dag glaður verið í því landi. Mér gaf þá sýn að eg sá um allan Þrándheim og því næst um allan Noreg og svo lengi sem sú sýn hafði verið fyrir augum mér þá sá eg æ því víðara allt þar til er eg sá um alla veröld, bæði lönd og sæ. Eg kenndi gerla þá staði er eg hafði fyrr komið og séð. Jafngreinilega sá eg þá staði er eg hefi eigi fyrr séð, suma þá er eg hefi haft spurn af en jafnvel hina er eg hefi eigi fyrr heyrt getið, bæði byggða og óbyggða, svo vítt sem veröldin er."

Biskup segir að sú sýn var heilagleg og stórmerkileg.
