Ólafur konungur gerði orð frá sér í byggðir og sendi orð þeim mönnum, er það vildu hafa til féfangs sér að afla hlutskiptis og hafa upptektir þær er óvinir konungs sætu fyrir, þá skyldu þeir til hans koma og honum fylgja.

Ólafur konungur flutti þá her sinn og fór um markbyggðir en sumt um eyðimerkur og oftlega um vötn stór. Þeir drógu eða báru skipin eftir sér milli vatnanna. Fjöldi dreif liðs til konungs, markamenn og sumt stigamenn. Er þar víða síðan kallað Ólafsbúðir sem hann hafði náttstaði. Hann létti eigi ferðinni fyrr en hann kom fram á Jamtaland, fór þá síðan norður til Kjalar. Skiptist lið hans í byggðirnar og fór mjög sundurlaust meðan þeir vissu ekki ófriðar vonir. En jafnan er þeir skiptu liði sínu þá fylgdi konungi Norðmannalið en Dagur fór þá í annan stað með sitt lið en Svíar í þriðja stað með sínu liði.
