Þegar á bak jólum hélt Ólafur konungur á búnaði. Hann hafði þar nær tveimur hundruðum sinna manna. Fékk Jarisleifur konungur öllum þeim eyki og þar reiða með svo sem þurfti. En er hann var búinn þá fór hann. Leiddi Jarisleifur konungur hann og Ingigerður drottning vegsamlega af hendi. En Magnús son sinn lét hann þar eftir með konungi. Þá fór Ólafur konungur austan, fyrst að frerum allt til hafsins.


En er voraði og ísa leysti þá bjuggu þeir skip sín. En er þeir voru búnir og byr kom þá sigla þeir og greiddist ferð sú vel. Kom Ólafur konungur skipum sínum við Gotland, spurði þar tíðindi bæði af Svíaveldi og Danmörku og allt úr Noregi. Var þá spurt til sanns að Hákon jarl var týndur en land í Noregi var höfðingjalaust. Þótti konungi og hans mönnum þá vænt um sína ferð, sigldu þaðan þá er byr gaf og héldu til Svíþjóðar.


Lagði konungur liði sínu inn í Löginn og hélt upp í land til Áróss, gerði síðan menn á fund Önundar Svíakonungs og lagði stefnu við hann. Önundur konungur varð vel við orðsending mágs síns og fór til fundar við Ólaf konung svo sem hann hafði orð til send. Kom þá og til Ólafs konungs Ástríður drottning með þá menn er henni höfðu fylgt. Varð þar fagnafundur með öllum þeim. Fagnar Svíakonungur vel Ólafi konungi mági sínum er þeir hittust.
