Menn þeir er Ólafur konungur hafði sent austur á Gautland eftir skipum sínum, þá fóru þeir með þau skip er þeim þóttu best en hin brenndu þeir, höfðu með sér reiða og annan varnað þann er konungur átti og menn hans. Þeir sigldu austan þá er þeir spurðu að Knútur konungur var farinn norður í Noreg, sigldu þá austan um Eyrarsund, svo norður til Víkurinnar á fund Ólafs konungs, færðu honum skip sín. Var hann þá í Túnsbergi.


En er Ólafur spurði að Knútur konungur fór liði sínu norður fyrir land þá hélt Ólafur konungur inn í Óslóarfjörð og upp í vatn það er Drafn heitir og hafðist hann þar við til þess er her Knúts konungs var farinn um suður.


En í ferð þeirri er Knútur konungur fór norðan með landi átti hann þing í hverju fylki en á hverju þingi var honum land svarið og gefnir gíslar. Fór hann austur yfir Foldina til Borgar og átti þar þing. Var honum þar land svarið sem annars staðar. Síðan fór Knútur konungur til Danmarkar suður og hafði hann Noreg eignast orustulaust. Réð hann þá fyrir þremur þjóðlöndum.


Svo segir Hallvarður Háreksblesi er hann orti um Knút konung:



Englandi ræðr yngvi
einn, hefst friðr að beinni,
böðrakkr bænar nökkva
barkrjóðr, og Danmörku,
ok hefir, odda Leiknar,
jálm-Freyr und sig málma,
hjaldrörr haukum þverrir
hungr, Noregi þrungið.
