Það sama vor gerðust þau tíðindi á Hálogalandi að Hárekur úr Þjóttu minntist þess að Ásmundur Grankelsson hafði rænta og barða húskarla hans. Skip það er Hárekur átti, tvítugsessa, flaut fyrir bæ hans tjölduð og þilið. Gerði hann það orð á að hann ætlaði að fara suður til Þrándheims.

Eitthvert kveld gekk Hárekur til skips með húskarlalið sitt og hafði nær átta tigum manna. Reru þeir um nóttina og komu er morgnaði til bæjar Grankels, slógu þar hring um hús, veittu þar síðan atgöngu, lögðu síðan eld í hús. Brann þar Grankell inni og menn með honum en sumir voru úti drepnir. Létust þar alls þrír tigir manna. Fór Hárekur heim eftir verk það og sat í búi sínu.

Ásmundur var með Ólafi konungi. Var þar bæði um þá menn er á Hálogalandi voru að engi beiddi Hárek bóta fyrir verk það enda bauð hann eigi.
