Maður er nefndur Grankell eða Granketill, auðigur búandi og var þá heldur við aldur. En þá er hann var á unga aldri hafði hann í víkingu verið og þá hermaður mikill. Hann var atgervimaður mikill um flesta hluti þá er íþróttum gegndi. Ásmundur hét sonur hans og var hann um alla hluti líkur föður sínum eða nokkuru framar. Það var margra manna mál að fyrir sakir fríðleiks, afls og íþrótta að hann hafi verið hinn þriðji maður best að sér búinn í Noregi en fyrst hafa til verið nefndir Hákon Aðalsteinsfóstri og Ólafur Tryggvason.


Grankell bauð Ólafi konungi til veislu og var þar veisla allkappsamleg. Leiddi Grankell hann stórum vingjöfum í brott. Konungur bauð Ásmundi að fara með sér og lagði til þess mörg orð en Ásmundur þóttist eigi kunna að drepa hendi við veg sínum og réðst hann til ferðar með konungi og gerðist síðan hans maður og kom í hina mestu kærleika við konung.


Ólafur konungur dvaldist mestan hluta sumars á Hálogalandi og fór í allar þinghár og kristnaði þar allan lýð. Þá bjó í Bjarkey Þórir hundur. Hann var ríkastur maður norður þar. Hann gerðist þá lendur maður Ólafs konungs. Margir ríkir bóndasynir réðust þá til ferðar við Ólaf konung.


Þá er á leið sumarið kom konungur norðan og sneri þá inn eftir Þrándheimi til Niðaróss og sat þar eftir um veturinn. Og þann vetur kom Þorkell fóstri vestan úr Orkneyjum þá er hann hafði drepið Einar jarl rangmunn.


Það haust var í Þrándheimi hallæri á korni en áður hafði lengi verið góð árferð en hallæri var allt norður í land og því meira er norðar var en korn var gott austur í land og svo um Upplönd. En þess naut við í Þrándheimi að menn áttu þar mikil forn korn.
