Maður er nefndur Finnur litli, upplenskur maður en sumir segja að hann væri finnskur að ætt. Hann var allra manna minnstur og allra manna fóthvatastur svo að engi hestur tók hann á rás. Hann kunni manna best við skíð og boga. Hann hafði lengi verið þjónustumaður Hræreks konungs og farið oft erinda hans, þeirra er trúnaðar þurfti við. Hann kunni vega um öll Upplönd. Hann var og málkunnigur þar mörgu stórmenni.

En er Hrærekur konungur var tekinn í fárra gæslu þá slóst Finnur í för þeirra og fór hann oftast í sveit með knöpum og þjónustumönnum en hvert sinn er hann mátti kom hann til þjónustu við Hrærek konung og oft í tal og vildi konungur skömmum samfast mæla við hann og vildi ekki gruna láta tal þeirra.

En er á leið vorið og þeir sóttu út í Víkina þá hvarf Finnur í brott frá liðinu nokkura daga. Þá kom hann enn aftur og dvaldist um hríð. Svo fór oft fram og var að því engi gaumur gefinn því að margir voru umrenningar með liðinu.
