Ólafur konungur hélt til njósnum um farar jarls en er hann spurði það að jarl var úr landi farinn þá fór hann vestur eftir Víkinni. Dreif þá lið til hans. Var hann til konungs tekinn á þingum. Fór hann svo allt til Líðandisness. Þá spurði hann að Erlingur Skjálgsson hafði safnað mikinn. Dvaldist hann þá ekki á Norður-Ögðum því að hann fékk hraðbyri. Fór hann sem skyndilegast norður til Þrándheims því að honum þótti þar vera allt megin landsins ef hann fengi þar undir sig komið meðan jarl var úr landi.

En er Ólafur konungur kom í Þrándheim þá varð þar engi uppreist í móti honum og var hann þar til konungs tekinn og settist þar um haustið í Niðarósi og bjó þar til veturvistar og lét þar húsa konungsgarð og reisa þar Klemenskirkju í þeim stað sem nú stendur hún. Hann markaði tóftir til garða og gaf bóndum og kaupmönnum eða þeim öðrum er honum sýndist og húsa vildu. Hann sat þar fjölmennur því að hann treystist illa Þrændum um trúleik ef jarl kæmi aftur í landið. Voru berastir í því Innþrændir og fékk hann þaðan engar skyldir.
