Það sumar komu synir Aðalráðs konungs af Englandi til Rúðu í
Valland til móðurbræðra sinna er Ólafur Haraldsson kom vestan
úr víking og voru allir þann vetur í Norðmandí og bundu lag
sitt saman með þeim skildaga að Ólafur konungur skyldi hafa
Norðimbraland ef þeir eignuðust England af Dönum.
Þá sendi Ólafur konungur um haustið Hrana fóstra sinn til
Englands að eflast þar að liði og sendu Aðalráðssynir hann
með jartegnum til vina sinna og frænda en Ólafur konungur
fékk honum lausafé mikið að spenja lið undir þá. Og var Hrani
um veturinn í Englandi og fékk trúnað margra ríkismanna og
var landsmönnum betur viljað að hafa samlenda konunga yfir
sér en þó var þá orðinn svo mikill styrkur Dana í Englandi að
allt landsfólk var undir brotið ríki þeirra.
