Eftir fall Ólafs Tryggvasonar gaf Eiríkur jarl grið Einari þambarskelfi, syni Eindriða Styrkárssonar. Einar fór með jarli norður í Noreg, og er sagt að Einar hafi verið allra manna sterkastur og bestur bogmaður er verið hafi í Noregi og var harðskeyti hans umfram alla menn aðra. Hann skaut með bakkakólfi í gegnum uxahúð hráblauta er hékk á ási einum. Skíðfær var hann allra manna best. Hinn mesti var hann íþróttamaður og hreystimaður. Hann var ættstór og auðigur. Eiríkur jarl og Sveinn jarl giftu Einari systur sína Bergljótu Hákonardóttur. Hún var hinn mesti skörungur. Eindriði hét sonur þeirra. Jarlar gáfu Einari veislur stórar í Orkadal og gerðist hann ríkastur og göfgastur í Þrændalögum og var hann hinn mesti styrkur jörlunum og ástvinur.
