Ólafur konungur var höfðingi fyrir herinum þá er þeir héldu til Kantarabyrgis og börðust þar allt til þess er þeir unnu staðinn, drápu þar fjölda liðs og brenndu borgina.

Svo segir Óttar svarti:

Atgöngu vannstu, yngvi,
ætt siklinga mikla.
Blíðr hilmir, rauðstu breiða
borg Kantara um morgun.
Lék við rönn af ríki,
réðstu, bragna konr, gagni,
aldar frá eg að aldri,
eldr og reykr, að þú belldir.

Sighvatur telur þessa hina áttu orustu Ólafs konungs:

Veit eg að víga mætir,
Vindum háttr, hinn átta,
styrkr gekk vörðr að virki
verðungar, styr gerði.
Sinn máttut bæ banna,
borg Kantara, sorgar
mart fékk prúðum Pörtum,
portgreifar Óleifi.

Ólafur konungur hafði landvörn fyrir Englandi og fór með herskipum fyrir land og lagði upp í Nýjamóðu, þar var fyrir þingamannalið, og áttu þar orustu og hafði Ólafur konungur sigur.

Svo segir Sighvatur skáld:

Vann ungr konungr Englum
ótrauðr skarar rauðar.
Endr kom brúnt á branda
blóð í Nýjamóðu.
Nú hefi eg orustur, austan
ógnvaldr, níu taldar.
Herr féll danskr, þar er dörrum
dreif mest að Óleifi.

Ólafur konungur fór þá víða um landið og tók gjöld af mönnum en herjaði að öðrum kosti.

Svo segir Óttar:

Máttit enskrar ættar
öld, þar er tókst við gjöldum,
vísi, vægðarlausum,
víðfrægr, við þér bægja.
Guldut gumnar sjaldan
goll döglingi hollum.
Stundum frá eg til strandar
stór þing ofan fóru.

Þar dvaldist Ólafur konungur í það sinn þrjá vetur.
