Ólafur konungur hafði hundrað hirðmanna og sex tigu gesta og
sex tigu húskarla, þeirra er flytja skyldu til garðsins það
er þurfti eða starfa aðra hluti þá sem konungur vildi. En er
bændur spurðu konung þess fyrir hví hann hefði meira lið en
lög voru til eða fyrri konungar höfðu haft þá er hann fór á
veislur þar sem bændur gerðu fyrir honum.

Konungur svarar svo: "Eigi fæ eg betur stýrt ríkinu og eigi
er meiri ógn af mér en af föður mínum þótt eg hafi hálfu
fleira lið en hann hafði en engi pynding gengur mér til þess
við yður eða það að eg vilji þyngja kostum yðrum."
