Kolbeinn hét maður, ungur og fátækur, en Þóra móðir Sigurðar
konungs Jórsalafara lét skera tungu úr höfði honum og var til
þess eigi meiri sök, en sá hinn ungi maður, Kolbeinn, hafði
etið stykki hálft af diski konungsmóður og sagði að steikari
hafði gefið honum en hann þorði eigi við að ganga fyrir
henni. Síðan fór sá maður mállaus langa hríð.

Þess getur Einar Skúlason í Ólafsdrápu:

Göfug lét Hörn úr höfði

hvítings um sök lítla

auðar aumum beiði

ungs manns skera tungu.

Þann sáum vér er vorum,

válaust numinn máli,

hoddbrjót, þar er heitir

Hlíð, fám vikum síðar.

Hann sótti síðan til Þrándheims og til Niðaróss og vakti að
Kristskirkju.

En um óttusöng Ólafsvökudag hinn síðara þá sofnaði hann og
þóttist sjá Ólaf hinn helga koma til sín og taka hendi sinni
í stúfinn tungunnar og heimta. En er hann vaknaði þá var hann
heill og þakkaði vorum drottni feginsamlega og hinum helga
Ólafi konungi, er hann hafði heilsu og miskunn af þegið,
hafði farið þannug mállaus og sótti hans heilagt skrín en
þaðan fór hann heill og skorinorður.
