Magnús konungur var yfir Noregi tíu vetur og var á hans dögum
friður góður innanlands en menn höfðu mjög starfsamt og
kostnaðarsamt af leiðöngrum. Var Magnús konungur hinn
vinsælsti við sína menn en bóndum þótti hann harður.



Það herma menn frá orðum hans, þá er vinir hans mæltu að hann
fór oft óvarlega er hann herjaði utanlands, hann sagði svo:
"Til frægðar skal konung hafa en ekki til langlífis."



Magnús konungur var nær þrítugur að aldri þá er hann féll.
Víðkunnur drap þann mann í orustu er banamaður var Magnúss
konungs. Þá flýði Víðkunnur og hafði fengið þrjú sár. Og af
þessum sökum tóku synir Magnúss konungs hann í hinn mesta
kærleik.
