Skofti Ögmundarson varð missáttur við Magnús konung og deildu
þeir um dánararf nokkurn. Skofti hélt en konungur kallaði til
með svo mikilli freku að það var við voða sjálfan. Voru þá að
áttar margar stefnur og lagði Skofti það ráð til að þeir
feðgar skyldu aldrei allir senn vera á konungs valdi, sagði
að meðan mundi hlýða.

Þá er Skofti var fyrir konungi flutti hann það fram að skyld
frændsemi var milli þeirra konungs og það með að Skofti hafði
verið jafnan kær vinur konungs og aldrei brugðist þeirra
vinátta, sagði svo að menn mættu það skilja að hann var svo
viti borinn "að eg mun," segir hann, "eigi það mál halda í
deilu við þig konungur ef eg mæli rangt. Og því bregður mér
til foreldris míns að eg haldi réttu máli fyrir hverjum manni
og geri eg þar engi mannamun að."

Konungur var hinn sami og mýktist ekki hans skap við slíkar
ræður. Fór Skofti heim.
