Sigurður jarl fór með hið fríðasta lið sitt um Víkina og gekk undir hann mart lið fyrir ofríkis sakir en margir guldu fé. Fór hann svo víða uppi á landi og kom fram í ýmsum stöðum. Voru þeir sumir í flokkinum er sér leituðu griða á laun til Erlings en þar komu þau svör í mót að allir menn þeir er þess leituðu skyldu hafa lífsgrið en þeir einir landsvist er eigi væru í stórsökum við hann. En er það spurðu flokksmenn að menn skyldu eigi landsvistina hafa þá hélt það mjög saman flokkinum því að þeir voru margir, að sig vissu að því sanna er Erlingi mundu þykja mjög sakbitnir.

Filippus Gyrðarson gekk til sætta við Erling og fékk aftur eignir sínar og fór aftur til búa sinna. Litlu síðar komu þar Sigurðar menn og drápu hann. Mörg slög veittu hvorir öðrum í eltum eða í manna aftökum og er það ekki ritað er eigi áttust höfðingjar við.
